The people that we are caring for are classed as vulnerable and they are or might be at risk from mistreatment (including a criminal offence) through acts of omission or commission by those they depend on or from whom they cannot defend themselves. Under this definition, therefore, vulnerable adults and children may typically include people who are elderly and frail, young and susceptible, people with learning, physical or sensory disabilities and people who have mental health problems.
Application for Employment
Further to your enquiry, please find enclosed an Application Form, which should be completed and returned to the address below at the earliest opportunity. Please also take time to read through the document titled ‘Intrinsic occupational requirements in relation to the health of employees’.
To avoid any delays in processing your job application, I would ask that you take note of the following directions when completing the application form. I understand that this may appear to be laborious and time consuming but we are governed by regulatory requirements and therefore it is imperative that the following information is completed in full.
1. Application Form
· The application form should be completed in full in type or black ink.
· Please record your entire previous employment history in months and years detailing any period of unemployment, voluntary work and parental and carer responsibilities, no matter how short a period of time.
· Please provide a written explanation for any gaps in employment (on a separate sheet if necessary).
· Please provide valid reasons for leaving every employer with as much detail as possible. For example we cannot accept “started new job”.
2. References
Please give the names of three people who are able to provide references. Two of the three references must be from your two most recent employers. The references must include the reasons for the employment ending. Details of any previous employers in the social care sector, no matter how long ago or for whatever period of time, must also be provided including name, telephone number and email address. This is a regulatory requirement.
Please also provide the contact details of all/any other employers whom you were employed for as the company has the right to contact all previous employers for references and is obligated to contact any previous health and/or social care companies that you may have worked for.
Because of the nature of the work for which you are applying, the post is exempt from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Orders 1975.
On confirmation of appointment into the role, all successful candidates are required to undertake a standard or enhanced disclosure check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Please be assured that the Company complies fully with the Disclosure Barring Service’s Code of Practice, and the Rehabilitation of Offenders Action 1974. Please note that the Disclosure and Barring Service process is exempt from the Equality Act 2010, and as a result you will be asked to provide a Date of Birth. Intrinsic Occupational Requirements in relation to the health of employees
Cradley Care Services places a great importance on the health and wellbeing of its staff. As such, it is important to establish that for certain roles that our employees are fully capable of performing their duties where there is an intrinsic occupational requirement that is dependent upon health. In-line with the Equality Act 2010 (Part 5 - Work Section 60), Cradley Care Services retains the right to ask applicants about their health during the recruitment process in order to assess applicant’s suitability for employment.

Physical Intervention - an intrinsic occupational requirement
Due to the nature of our working environment, employees working in resident facing roles within Cradley Care Services may, in certain circumstances, be required to undertake a course in Safe-holding and De-escalation techniques in order to maintain their own safety, and that of their colleagues and residents around them when working in areas where challenging behaviour may be present. The level of challenging behaviour that may be displayed varies both across the different sites, and also within them depending upon the individual needs of each person in our care.
Challenging Behaviour
The term challenging behaviour refers to any behaviour that puts the person displaying the behaviour and others at risk. This type of behaviour can interfere with home life and family members and can affect the resident’s ability to be able to safely interact with community members and facilities. Challenging behaviour may include, but is not limited to:
· Physical aggression
· Verbal aggression
· Self-injury
· Property destruction
· Non-compliance
· Anti-social nuisance behaviour
If you are successful at interview and are provided with a ‘conditional’ offer of employment, we will require you to complete a Medical Clearance Questionnaire, in order to assess whether you meet the required level of fitness for the role that you are applying for. Failure to declare any conditions or illnesses, or attend any subsequent independent medical assessments, may result in any conditional offer of employment being withdrawn.
